How to Install PuTTY for Windows | Client for Remote Shell Protocols

PuTTY is an excellent SSH and Telnet client. PuTTY was initially developed by Simon Tatham for the Windows platform. PuTTY Portable is open-source software that is available with source code and is developed by a group of volunteers. These protocols are used to run the remote session on your computer over the network. PuTTY can be run on all Windows machines. Mac and Linus OS have default SSL clients whereas Windows OS does not have any default SSH clients. Hence, PuTTY offers you free and awesome SSH or telnet client. You can also download PuTTY for Mac and PuTTY for Linux. Here we are going to see How to Install PuTTY for Windows?

PuTTY for Windows – Requirement
Before you start using PuTTY on your Windows PC, you have to check the following requirements:
- Check whether Windows has SSH login credentials.
- You have to be familiar with the connection to your server through SSH.

How to Install PuTTY for Windows
Here we offer you the method and guide that says how to install and use PuTTY on your PC.
Step 1: First, you have to Download PuTTY from the given URL: https://www.putty.org/ otherwise you can choose some other source to get the app on your device. Downloading “PuTTY.exe” is good for SSH.

Step 2: Once the download has done just save the download on your C:\WINDOWS folder.

Step 3: If you are interested in creating the link on PuTTY desktop, first open the C:\WINDOWS folder on your Windows PC. Then make a right-click on the putty.exe file and select the Send To > Desktop option.

Step 4: To launch the application on your system, you have to make a Double-click on your PuTTY.exe program to launch it on your PC.

Step 5: Once the application is launched on your system you have to enter the Connection settings. The settings are Hostname Port 22 is the default and select the Connection type as SSH.

Step 6: Once the connection settings are done, make a click to start the session of the SSH.

Step 7: If it is the first time that you are connecting the server for this computer, then a message will appear on the screen. Accept the connection by making a click on the Yes button.

Step 8: If you establish the SSH Connection, you have to see the terminal prompt that will ask you the username as “Login as:“. Now you have to connect it with your SSH user according to the choice.

Step 9: Then you have to enter the password, once you enter the Password you have to note that you cannot see the cursor moving or any character typed and it will be displayed as “******”. It is the standard PuTTY security feature hence after entering the password hit the enter button.

Step 10: Now you are logged into the SSH server and experience the features of PuTTY on your Windows System.
